A dinosaur you can wear — hand-fabricated in solid sterling silver by someone who has actually knelt in the dirt and lifted their bones.

Across the face of this pendant strides a long-necked dinosaur (a sauropod) in dark silver silhouette, set beneath a deep-blue lapis lazuli cabochon like a full moon over the Jurassic. The whole piece is built by hand — sawn, formed, and bezel-set — in sterling silver, then finished front and back.

What makes it real: it's made by a field paleontologist. Not a dinosaur bone (I don't sell fossil material) — a dinosaur rendered in metal, by hand, by someone who spent seasons excavating the real animals in Wyoming's Morrison Formation. That's a story no factory and no algorithm can copy.

Handmade by Bob Boscarelli — Marine Corps veteran, field paleontologist, and silversmith & lapidary working from Soquel, California. He studied jewelry at Cabrillo College under Dawn Nakanishi, whose rule stuck with him: make the back as nice as the front. This is one of his earlier pieces — made before he adopted his now-signature dinosaur maker's mark (a fitting irony for a dinosaur pendant). It's part of his Cyberzoic studio collection and arrives with a small card telling its story.

The details

  • Technique: hand-sawn/fabricated sterling silver, silhouette overlay, bezel-set stone
  • Metals: sterling silver (sterling guaranteed by the maker)
  • Stone: lapis lazuli cabochon
  • Size — pendant body: approx. 1.7″ H × 1.3″ W · total length incl. bail: approx. 2″
  • Pendant only (no chain included) — pairs with your favorite chain or cord
  • Hand-signed on the back with Bob's maker's mark — a distinctive geometric glyph he scribes by hand (the way he signed his work before the dinosaur stamp)
  • An early piece. One of a kind — only one exists.

Care: Handmade art jewelry — keep dry, avoid chemicals; polish the silver gently. Lapis is a softer stone — treat it kindly.
